Have you ever done the work to understand a pattern, but still felt unable to change it? With a compassionate and gentle approach, I can help you feel safe to turn toward the parts of yourself that you have been hidden or shunned. Together, we learn to heal trauma, cope with life’s stressors, and build the self-trust needed to make healthy choices for the future.
How I Approach Therapy
I believe therapy is a collaboration, a relationship that makes room for truth, humor, silence, and surprise. The modalities I draw from (EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems) each offer different ways of understanding the same thing: that your mind, body, and emotions are connected, and that the parts of you that seem to be in conflict are usually just trying to keep you safe.
Before private practice, I worked as a school-based therapist supporting kids and families. A lot of people ask me how working with kids informs me with my adult clients. Kids were willing to give honest feedback, and when something didn’t work for them, I had to learn what did. Kids taught me to be creative, stay on my toes and meet each person where they are at, with the language and tools that works for them. As hard as this work can be, it is important to me to stay playful and curious.
Healing from trauma and grief doesn’t necessarily mean the pain ever fully goes away. However, you can learn to put the weight of the pain down, and not feel like you have to carry it alone.
